"Ah, Lord God!" I said, "I know not how to speak; I am too young." But the Lord answered me: "Say not 'I am too young.' To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak."
- Jeremiah 1:6-7
An Altar Server is a young person who is invited by the parish to assist the priest at Mass and other liturgies of the Church. This ministry is just one of several liturgical ministries. The ministry of Altar Server is open to all Catholic boys and girls who have reached the fifth grade in school and have been Baptized and received First Communion. You or your family must also be registered as members of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Training and formation for the ministry of Altar Server is offered several times a year. It consists of four Sunday morning classes in a row. The classes include learning the movements and gestures and other skills required for serving at liturgies as well as gaining an understanding and knowledge of the Mass and its parts.
